Marla Thalheimer is the Director of Sustainability for Brookdale Senior Living. Based in Nashville, TN, Marla is responsible for driving Brookdale’s commitment to sustainability, including developing programs and initiatives that create enduring value for their People, in their Places, and through their Performance. Recent accomplishments include benchmarking 100% of the Brookdale portfolio in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, over $7M in energy savings, and publishing of Brookdale’s first annual sustainability report. Prior to joining Brookdale in 2015, Marla was the Director of Sustainability for Liberty Property Trust, a large office and industrial REIT based in Philadelphia, PA.
Marla is a LEED AP and previously served as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Delaware Valley Green Building Council, Co-Chair of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Building Alliance Commercial Real Estate and Hospitality Steering Committee, Vice-Chair of the BOMA National Energy and Environment Committee and is a member of the Technical Advisory Group for CBEI (Consortium for Building Energy Innovation). She also recently completed her Master’s Degree in Sustainability and Environmental Management from the Harvard University Extension School.
