John Couture joined Lifespace in 2015 with more than 23 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Lifespace, he held a variety of leadership roles in information technology (IT) and operations with Athene, Aviva USA and AEGON/Transamerica.
John began his career in life insurance and annuity policy underwriting, policy holder services and call center management.
In the late 1990s, he became an IT project manager, where he led several initiatives to merge annuity operations after AEGON acquired Providian Corporation. John then led a $100 million IT budget integration project and two business unit divestures for non-core business functions when AEGON acquired Transamerica.
John has been successful at developing high performing teams, streamlining business and IT processes, achieving operational efficiencies and aligning technology and business strategies. Throughout his career, John progressed into various leadership roles for several IT functions including business relationship management, enterprise architecture, desktop support, telephony and network services. Most recently, John was the vice president of procurement and vendor management at Athene, where he oversaw a purchasing budget of over $250 million annually.
John earned a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree from Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Master of Science degree from the University of Louisville. John and his wife live in Des Moines, Iowa.
